The Museum of Fort Worth

The Stockyards Museum is located in the classic 1902 Livestock Exchange building in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.  In 1989, the North Fort Worth Historical Society first opened the Stockyards Museum in a small space to be able to share its historic archives with the public. From this modest beginning, the Stockyards Museum has now grown to host thousands of yearly visitors who come from all over the world. We are expecting our two millionth visitor in the near future. In addition, the museum is a highly respected resource for writers, academics, historians, restoration specialists and genealogists in their research.

The Stockyards Museum is a casual, friendly place welcoming families and permitting cameras.  It’s a great place to spend some time capturing the true feeling and history of the Stockyards.

Big Group Turns Out for XTO-Swift Tour

XTO Energy hosted a larger than expected turnout for the July meeting of the Society at XTO’s newly restored Swift & Co. building.  There were a number of new members as well as oldtimers and their guests attending as Joy Webster of XTO led the multi-floor tour answering questions and describing interesting discoveries made as the reconstruction progressed.

Society President Tom Wiederhold presented the NFWHS Historic Preservation Award to XTO Energy in recognition of their significant efforts in the rediscovery, perpetuation and preservation of many historic Fort Worth buildings.  Joy  Webster accepted the award for XTO Energy.
