North Fort Worth Historical Society

Chartered in 1976 as a non-profit 501c3 corporation, the mission of the North Fort Worth Historical Society (NFWHS) is to rediscover, perpetuate and preserve the area’s rich history. While serving as the parent for the Stockyards Museum, the NFWHS is also an archival resource for historians, academics, writers, genealogy fans and the general public. Over more than 30 years, it has actively promoted the preservation of many North Texas landmarks, has taken the lead in placing informative historical markers, and has helped identify many places and buildings that have faded from public memory. The staff spends many hours per week responding to requests for information or copies of historical pictures and drawings from the archives.

The Society has published several books about the history of the Stockyards and has produced and published the very popular video “Wall Street of the West” narrated by Barry Corbin.

The NFWHS always welcomes the opportunity to receive bequests, gifts or estate materials that contain photographs, documents and objects RELATING to the history of the Stockyards or the North Fort Worth area.

The North Fort Worth Historical Society and the Stockyards Museum receives no municipal or public funds and has no corporate sponsors or trusts. Instead the Society depends upon the small donations requested from our adult visitors, Museum Store receipts, bequests and gifts, other donations, grants and other similar funding.

The Stockyards Museum has continually expanded both its display areas and its research and storage facilities to be able to better serve its visitors and historians. Volunteers work in the museum and store daily to assist visitors with information and to promote the North Fort Worth Historical Society and its mission.

Internships for high school and college students are available.
